Opening weekend celebrations of Into The Forest will feature Brigitte Martin as our Saturday morning forum keynote speaker. Her talk, titled “From The Forest Into The World”, will draw upon her experience as a creative innovator and passionate leader in the international craft community.
Brigitte Martin is a traditionally trained goldsmith from Germany. Her jewelry has been
exhibited at the Museum of Art in Cleveland, and in galleries across the US. Martin curates and juries exhibitions nationally and, in 2012, CBS media named her one of the best art curators in Pittsburgh, PA. Martin was a featured panelist on NPR’s RADIO TIMES.
Martin is the current president of The Society of North American Goldsmiths and also serves as the organization’s Fundraising & Development Chair. Martin is a national public speaker on topics of social networking, online community, artist development, and arts entrepreneurship.
In 2008, Martin created the international online social network CRAFTHAUS to foster
camaraderie and professional exchange within the international craft community. As the site’s managing editor, she publishes articles and is passionate about helping artists connect with the larger craft world and progress on their career paths.
In 2011, Martin founded a national Craft Think Tank and continues to organize the annual meetings in cooperation with the American Craft Council. In 2012, Martin published her first book, Humor in Craft, which won the FINALIST award at the 2012 USA Best Book Awards and a Gold Medal at the Independent Publisher Book Awards in 2013.
